The Louisville community is grieving the loss of former University of Louisville linebacker P.J. Blue, who passed away on April 7, 2025, at just 27 years old. A Birmingham, Alabama native and Park Crossing High School graduate, P.J. left an unforgettable mark on and off the field with his determination, loyalty, and heart.
P.J. was more than a football player—he was a source of encouragement, positivity, and leadership. At Louisville, he became known not only for his tough defensive play but also for the way he lifted others up, whether it was a teammate on the sidelines or a younger athlete looking for guidance. His smile, his energy, and his unwavering commitment to those around him made him a standout far beyond football.
The University of Louisville Football program honored him as a “Cardinal Forever,” a sentiment shared widely among friends, fans, and former teammates. Coach Angelo Wheeler echoed that sentiment with a heartfelt reminder: “Coaches, you have to stay with your guys throughout LIFE.”
P.J.’s story was one of perseverance. Despite setbacks, he kept pushing—always with humility and purpose. He carried that same mindset into life after college, giving back to his community in both Birmingham and Louisville, always staying close to the game and the people it brought into his life.
Though no cause of death has been released, the outpouring of support for his family reflects the kind of man P.J. was—steady, kind, and always ready to lead with love. A memorial service will be announced soon, and in keeping with his passion for helping others, the family has asked that donations be made to youth mentorship programs and local community initiatives in his name.
P.J. Blue’s life may have ended too soon, but his influence lives on in every person he inspired. He’ll be remembered not only as a Cardinal, but as a brother, a mentor, and a light to those lucky enough to know him.
Rest easy, P.J. #CardinalForever
